A species of legume in the family Fabaceae found only in Ecuador. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Commonly known as a “Coral tree” this species status is listed as threatened.

This plants flower is adapted to passerine birds. It has short, open-mouthed, backwardly directed flowers on horizontal racemes. The primary pollinators are members of the Coerebidae (honeycreepers), passerine birds which perch on the inflorescence rachis while probing the flowers.
