Elaeocarpus angustifolius

Elaeocarpus angustifolius

Elaeocarpus angustifolius

This rainforest tree is native to Eastern Australia. While not featured in the main garden this tree grows on one of our neighboring properties not open to the public. The fruits are unmistakable due to their incredible color, it’s no wonder the common name is Blue Marble Tree! The bright blue fruit contains green pulp which is edible but not very tasty and an endocarp pit containing 5 seeds. The pit from the fruits are used for Rudraksha prayer beads. It is an evergreen perennial in the Elaeocarpaceae family.
