Zingiber spectabile
Beehive ginger is native to Malaysia and Thailand. It is used primarily in the cut flower trade but can be used medicinally. The colorful bract is a modified leaf with a flower cluster inside.
Beehive ginger was used for the treatment of inflammation of the eyes. It has antimicrobial properties, that means it is like an antibiotic. It was used to treat burns, headaches, back pain. Modern science has shown it may be effective in treating colon cancer. The plant contains Flavonoids and Curcuminoids. It is being used to help with the Mrsa bacteria.
