MISSION

A BIORESERVE DEDICATED TO SUSTAINABILITY

OUR MISSION: PEOPLE + PLANTS + OCEANS

Our mission is inspiring all people to live in unison with our planet through inclusive education focused on diverse ecosystems.

We are committed to the conservation of the world’s tropical plant life; to the preservation of the Onomea coast’s natural resources and wildlife; and to education on the importance of sustainability and rainforest biodiversity to all life on Planet Earth.

Hawai’i Tropical Bioreserve & Garden was established as a Scientific & Educational nonprofit in 1984 with clear guidelines ensuring the land will never be sold or commercially developed. The Founders, Dan and Pauline Lutkenhouse contributed their undivided time and energy to establish the Garden.

OUR VISION: PRESERVING THE PLANET FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

“We want to leave a legacy of education and experiences that encourages the next generation to be a part of sustainability and taking care of our planet.”

-Dan Lutkenhouse Jr., President/Executive Director

With the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as our guide, we are here to steward the relationship between people, plants, and our oceans. HTBG serves to develop a perpetual world-class science and education center for the enlightenment of sustainability and  biodiversity of the world’s natural resources.
